Prevent pesticide disasters

Be careful when using pesticides, fertilizers and other gardening products. The National Pesticide Information Center advises reading product labels carefully, following directions to the letter and keeping pets away until the product dries completely. If you sprinkle a granular product on your lawn, enforce a strict “keep off the grass” policy with pets for at least 24 hours so the granules have time to be absorbed. Don’t use cocoa mulch, which is made from the by-products of roasting cocoa beans. Eating cocoa can be lethal for a dog.
