Fail: Not keeping Fido and Fluffy away

Don’t pet or feed the dog while you’re cooking. “Dogs eat and roll in all sorts of things you may be exposed to it you feed or pet them while preparing or eating food.” If you do, wash your hands vigorously with soap and water and dry off with paper towels or a clean dish cloth. And don’t let the cat on the counter. “Your cat’s paws have been on the floor, picking up whatever your shoes have tracked into the house,” Mills notes. If the cat can’t be trained to stay off the counters, wipe them down with a mild disinfectant after each visit. Mills recommends keeping a gallon bottle filled with water and a tablespoon of bleach on hand.
