Washing your cutting boards by hand

It’s important to clean cutting boards well after slicing chicken, fish or meat. But detergent, water and elbow grease aren’t enough to get rid of bugs. Safer step: Sanitize. After washing, soak the board in bleach water (one gallon of warm water plus one tablespoon of bleach) for several minutes. Then dry thoroughly. Sanitize plastic cutting boards in the dishwasher.
