A healthy sex drive

Getting just five hours of sleep for a week sapped testosterone levels in young men in a study published in JAMA. Sleeping only five hours a night may sound extreme, but it’s common among 10 to 15 percent of the U.S. population, the researchers pointed out. Testosterone is critical not just to men’s sex drive but to muscle mass, bone density, keeping body fat low and maintaining “vigor and well-being,” they noted. And a 2015 study from the University of Michigan Medical School found that sleep-deprived women may boost their sex drive by 14 percent with each additional hour of sleep (and enjoy sex more, too).
