If you’re cooking up a romantic dinner, curry favor with your cutie — and his cardiologist — by working some turmeric into the meal. This spice gives curry powder its golden-yellow hue (but can stand on its own as a flavoring). It contains curcumin, a compound shown to have all sorts of health-boosting powers, from protecting against inflammation, cancer and infections to preventing the clogging of arteries, according to the American Cancer Society.
