Moisturize while you're still damp

Apply moisturizer as soon as you get out of the shower, while your skin is still damp. (Blot yourself with a towel first.) This helps seal in your skin's natural moisture.

“The best moisturizers are thick and greasy, like petroleum jelly, because they don’t allow moisture to escape,” says Hudacek. “But if you prefer a less greasy moisturizer, just make sure it doesn’t have perfumes or other additives in it that might irritate your skin.” If you don’t like lotions, one option is coconut oil, which contains natural fatty acids that may help reduce inflammation. But in general, Hudacek says, the thicker the barrier, the better.
