South Sudan

South Sudan, a landlocked country in northeastern Africa, is in the midst of a food crisis just four years after gaining its independence from Sudan. The crisis is a result of both an ongoing drought and political problems. Sudan, to the north, has suffered drought conditions for many years due to rising climate temperatures. Like neighboring Ethiopia, the El Niño effect in 2015 has taken an additional toll on rainfall amounts.
