Save a bundle: Buckle your child in her carseat without her coat

It's important to dress kids appropriately for the cold (they typically need one more layer than adults do). But when you strap your little one into her carseat, remove her bulky outerwear first. In a crash, a snowsuit or coat could compress, leaving the carseat's straps too loose to keep your child secure. If you have time, warm up the car before you put your tot inside, or bring along a blanket to tuck around her. Better safe and a little chilly than sorry.
