Soldering pipes

It’s tempting to try to solder, or sweat, a pipe yourself. But all it takes is a simple slip of the hand and you could wind up losing the money you’d pay a plumber, and a whole lot more. The National Fire Protection Association estimates an average of 23,300 fires are started each year by contact with flames, embers or sparks associated with operating equipment — a category that includes those seemingly innocuous propane torches sold at home centers. Unless you're very experienced with a torch, limit plumbing projects to those you can tackle without one. When soldering is necessary, call in a pro with the experience — and insurance — to tackle the job safely.
