Check your car's fluids and change the oil

You should take a peek at your fluid levels every two weeks. These include antifreeze (in winter), transmission and brake fluids and windshield washer solution. “It’s important to maintain proper fluid levels underneath the hood,” says automotive expert BarbaraTerry. Don't forget to check and change the oil, too. “Typically you’ll need an oil change every 3000 miles, unless your car is running on a newly engineered synthetic motor oil, in which case it’s 5000 to 7000 miles,” explains Terry. Fluids also need replacing, depending on usage. “Dirty oil, for example, is almost as bad as low oil,” she says.
