Shake your home fire extinguisher

Your fire extinguisher might as well be an oversized paper weight if the powder inside has become so packed down it won't spray out when you need it. That's why you should shake it once a month, according to UL. (This advice applies to dry chemical fire extinguishers.) You also should check the extinguisher gauge each month: Green is full and ready to go, red is empty. Replace the extinguisher every 5 to 10 years.
