Wash your dog's accessories

His squeaky chipmunk toy, his leash and especially his bed all need a good cleaning at least once a month, says Katy Nelson, DVM, a veterinarian in Alexandria, Virginia. “Imagine walking around barefoot all day and then not washing your feet before you got into bed,” she explains. And the leash definitely gets dirty, even if you can’t see the gunk. “Pee splashes up from the pavement, your dog carries it in his mouth and then you touch it after you’ve picked up his poop in a bag,” notes Nelson.
