Lose the scent

Cleaning products with added fragrances (including natural oils) can trigger allergic reactions. People who are sensitive to fragrances may develop symptoms such as a runny nose, wheezing or itching when exposed. In one study, researchers found that the vented air from laundry rooms using scented detergent and dryer sheets contained hazardous chemicals. In other studies, researchers found volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that can damage lungs in some air fresheners, toilet bowl cleaners and other deodorizing products. It’s always safer to use unscented products.
